Brenda Kinsel has been matching people’s clothes to their looks, personalities, passions and lifestyle since 1985. She is the owner of Inside Out, A Style and Wardrobe Consulting Company, based in San Francisco Bay Area.
She has been writing about fashion for nearly a decade, beginning with articles in the San Francisco Chronicle and the Marin Independent Journal; as the fashion editor for the Pacific Sun newspaper; editor of trade newsletters; and most recently, the author of two books: In the Dressing Room with Brenda: A fun and practical guide to buying smart and looking great ( Wild Cat Canyon Press, 2001) and 40 Over 40: 40 Things Every Women Over 40 Needs to Know About Getting Dressed. (Wild Cat Canyon Press, 2000). Her essays on clothes have been part of a charitable event called “Poems and Prose on Sex & Clothes” performed in front of standing-room-only audiences in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
She has appeared exclusively on TV, including The Oprah Winfrey Show; Mean are From Mars, Women are From Venus; Good Day Atlanta; Good Day Dallas; Positively Texas; and Fox News. She has been featured in the Chicago Tribune, the Boston Herald, the San Jose Mercury News, and the Detroit Free Press. She has been a guest expert on radio stations all across the country and Canada.
Kinsel has devoted years of leadership to the field of image consulting through her participation in the Association of Image Consultants International (AICI). She was awarded the most prestigious award in the image industry by her peers, the IMMIE (Image Makers Merit of Industry Excellence), in July, 2000 for achievement in the image industry.
Born and raised in North Dakota, she graduated with a degree in education from the University of North Dakota. Brenda has three wonderful kids (young adults) who are responsible for making her a nut about basketball and jazz, two subjects that don’t come as naturally as fashion; but which she pursues with great enthusiasm nonetheless.
